Assigned Blog #6: Blogs
In the first blog that I ever did at the begging of the semester I said I did not know what were blogs until I got introduces to them in English class. I have to admit that I do like blogs, not as much as Facebook, but I did take it serious since it was a big part in my English class. I like the idea of blogs because it was blogs or more essays. I liked that we only have 3 written essays this semester and about 12 blogs. Blogs are great, I think it help us connect more with the class and our class mates. We comment on their blog as well as they comment in ours. I think that is one of the reasons we all talk to each other, in class we shared personal stuff at the beginning and we also talk out of class. I think that blogs were both useful and valuable for class. It was a written assignment so it helped me improve my writing skills as well as kept me connected with other students in class. Truly, I think that Dr. Nielson made every so specific and well graded that I would not have any suggestions on blogging. I liked that when we were doing the 3rd essay on food we had a couple blogs on food. Everything we did in class was also connected with what we did in our blogs. The only comment I would like to make is that I don’t like posterous. I hate the fact that sometimes it uploads your blog right away, but for me it took about 2 days for my blogs to appear in the website. And sometimes my pictures weren’t like I wanted them to be. But that is all I would have to say about blogs and my blogging experience. This was a really good semester in Dr. Nielson’s class J.

Assigned Entry #5: Media: Reality T.V.
“I just don’t want to have a baby married to someone else,” Kim Kardashian. Those are the types of things and drama we hear when we are watching reality TV. More and more people now are watching reality TV since it has increased in popularity and most of channels have a reality shows. Keeping Up With the Karsdashian, Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, 16 & Pregnant, and Teen Mom are just some of the most popular shows that are currently still on and that have influence many people’s life. People have been extremely influenced by reality TV, teenager thinks is okay to get pregnant at such a young age, and more and more girls are auditioning for the show 16 & pregnant. How sad is it that for 15 min of fame teenagers are going to have a huge responsibility, a baby, for the rest of their life? At 16 years of age no child should be thinking about having another child. They should be focus on their education and trying to get a good degree so in the future they could have and take care of all the responsibilities a baby brings. Shows like Jersey Shore and Keeping Up with the Kard ashian brings a lot of drama to the table. Like Kim Kardashian 72 day marriage and her pregnancy with not her husband, but another man.

How Important is Vitamin D for the Body?
Vitamin D is a nutrient necessary for good health and to
maintain strong bones. The vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium (vital for
bone) from food and supplements. Lack of vitamin D leads to weak bones, thin
and frail. With age, millions of people suffering from or at risk for
osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become fragile and may break if the
person falls. It is one of the consequences of the lack of sufficient intake of
calcium and vitamin D in the long term. In addition, vitamin D is very important
for the body in many other ways: the muscles need this vitamin for movement,
nerves need it to transmit messages from the brain to every part of the body
and the immune system to fight the virus uses and bacteria that invade. A team
of scientists from the University of California, Los Angeles, has determined
how Vitamin D3 works with some body cells: helps clear the brain of amyloid
beta, the major component of the plaques that are observed in the Alzheimer's
disease.

Stressed???
33% of U.S. adults live in a state of extreme stress, and
48% believe that their stress has increased in the last five years. How to
prevent these tensions that can develop into disease? The body responds to
difficult situations by releasing adrenaline, which speeds up breathing and
heart rate, increased blood pressure, reports the American Heart Association.
Early symptoms include: excessive tiredness, depression, pain or pressure in
the chest, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, tremors, difficulty breathing, irregular
menstrual cycle, erectile dysfunction, loss of sexual desire. And then
compromises the functioning of the whole organism. To help your stress you can
talk to other people to let off steam, reminisce and tell them how you feel, do
not hide your feelings, help and comfort to others who are also suffering the
loss and get enough rest to recover and return to celebrate life.
Assign Entry #4: Capitalism: A Love Story
Michael Moore
denounces the capitalist system, he analyzes the global financial crisis and
that the U.S. economy is in decline. The director makes a call to social class
revolution against the businessmen who do not hesitate to enrich themselves at
the expense of the lives of people. All a person receives without working for,
another person must work for it, but without receiving. The government cannot
give to anybody anything, unless they would take it from somebody else. When
half of the people come to the conclusion that they do not have to work because
the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half is
convinced that it is worth working because someone will take away what they
have achieved with effort. The movie is more than an eye opener because people
kind of knew what is going on with our government, but this movie tells exactly
what we don’t want to hear. With all of the fact and things Moore’s points out
in the movie he also puts humor into it. And I think that is just the cherry on
top, people end up watching the movie the movie because it’s funny, if it was
just fact it would be boring.

In this article I have divided opinions. I think it's great
that students have different options to choose from, but I also believe it’s
going to be very difficult to learn everything in a 7 ½ period of time. I like
a 15 week semester. I think that you learn better if you learn it in deep. Having
a medicine major I like having a full 15 weeks to learn chemistry. But in the
other hand, I would love the idea of finishing a career faster. That instead of
4 years you only have to spend 2, although it is going to be harder. Like discussed
in the comments not all subjects can be crammed into 7 and 1/2 weeks. People were
discussing that Engineering would be very hard to take only in 7 ½ weeks and I totally
agree. It would be a really bad idea to crammed a 15 weeks of work in just 7
1/2 .
Heart Attacks
Since many people are
alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is
beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left
before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by
coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before
each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum
from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every
two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be
beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements
squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the
heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can
get to a hospital. Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could
save their lives. Truth or false this is something that is very easy to do and
that might just safe our lives.

Barefoot Foundation
“Our mission in the Barefoot Foundation work
to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise their right to a quality
education. Our model targets displaced and vulnerable communities by addressing
their unique needs,” Shakira. Most people know Shakira and think about a 5 foot
Barbie looking singer that is extremely talented, but there is much more to know.
One beautiful thing created by Shakira was the Barefoot Foundation. In 1997
just after releasing her first successful album Pies Descalsos, Shakira created the Barefoot Foundations to help
many impoverished children in Colombia. Support for the Foundation comes from
contributions by Shakira and donations from national and international
companies who care about social responsibility. They also work with
multilateral corporations who endorse special projects and have formed
alliances with government agencies. During February, 2008, Shakira auctioned
some of her tour clothes and guitars on eBay to support her foundation. Not only
does she have 4 successful schools in Colombia; but recently Shakira, with the
help of many people, launched her newest school in Africa. The schools are becoming
more and more successful each year and another goal is to make schools like
this one all over the world.

Fox News is a local as well as international news channel. In
Arizona Fox is covered in channel 10. And since 1996 they have been covering
the news with over 17 million views. But over the past few years we have come
to the opinion that Fox News is heavily bias when talking about the Republican
Party. In the past campaign according to Fox News Mitt Romney won all the debates.
While other news channel made Obama the winner.

In the YouTube videos above it make it more clear the fact
that Fox News favors the Republicans.

In Mexico there has been a myth or fact going around for a
couple of year. People say that Chihuahua dogs cure asthma in children. It has
been said that often asthma, especially in children between 3 and 12 years, is
psychological so any pet could help children get over it. Chihuahuas unusual don’t
have a lot of hair and their hair is hypoallergenic. But can asthma be psychological?
Other people, including me, think it’s a complete myth and it almost sounds
impossible to cure cancer. But if it was to happen would it be fair to make a
dog be sick? In my opinion, it would not be fair, but absolutely think this is
a myth there is no way that scientifically this could happen. What do you
think?
I was first introduced to blogs last semester in my English
101 class and truly blogs have their ups and downs. I definitely prefer to do blogs instead of
doing another written assignment in the semester. The good thing about this
semester is that we have changed from Posterous to Google Blog. I disliked
Posterous for so many reasons; one being our post was posted almost 3 days later
from when we posted it. But anyways… Even though I most of the time I read
Kardashian Blogs, one of the blogs I thought was extremely interesting was the EBay
blog (http://www.ebaychatter.com/). It’s
kind of hard to read because being there you only want to navigate away and
start looking for things to buy, but it have very interesting post. One blog I dislike and was very difficult for
me to stay on task and reading it was the Google Blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/) it
was so professional I just had to get out of there as soon as possible. Another
blog that I found and I really liked was about vegan food (http://ohsheglows.com/). They’re very
interesting foods that I would like to taste someday, but it was more of a
causal blog then personal; I think that is why I like it. Blogs can be fun and
profession at the same time not just sound like “blah, blah, blah” after
reading a couple of sentences.

I AM KARINA (Introduction)
Hi everybody, my name is Karina Rios and this is my second year here in Glendale Community College. I am attending GCC because I am getting my prerequisites to then transfer to ASU and get my degree in the Medical Field. I am the first out of my family to attend college; therefore I am still lost in some ways and scare that I’m doing the wrong things. I always ask myself if I’m taking the right classes or if I really want to be in the medical field. I guess that is just one of the consequences in being the first of the family to be in college. In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends. It doesn’t really matter what we do as long as we are together. I also love to play and watch soccer. On Sundays when I have free time, I go and play with my team.
